Australian dance-rock group Gold Fields released its debut full-length album Black Sun in February. At times, it feels like a modern send-up of classic '80s tunes. “Closest I Could Get” would not have been out of place on a Simple Minds album, and the propulsive synths and beats on “Treehouse” would have made it perfect fodder for the soundtrack of one of that decade's teen-centered films. “Dark Again” features swelling dance beats that combine with Mark Robert Fuller's vocals to great effect; this is one of several times where the band channels the sound of fellow countrymen Atlas Genius—and that is definitely not a bad thing. 1417 R Street, www.goldfieldsmusic.com.
