Fri., June 28, Kid Ink

Assembly, 8 p.m., $20

Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink (a.k.a. Brian Todd Collins) is one of those camera-ready guys with hella tattoos and hella swagger. Beneath the visual hype, however, exists a polished wordsmith, beat master and producer. In addition to a handful of mixtapes and an indie record (2012's Up & Away, which debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 chart), Kid Ink has signed to RCA Records and is currently at work on a new album. He's already dropped one single, the bombastic “Bad Ass.” All this, and he's a friend to the animals—in March, he joined People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' “Ink, Not Mink” campaign. Hella cool. 1000 K Street, www.kidinkmusic.com.
