Fri, July 24, The Donnas

Marilyn’s on K, 9 p.m., $18-$20

Back in the day, the Donnas were something of a novelty: a quartet of friends who sounded like the Ramones high on Motley Crue, Kiss and Cheap Trick. The “novelty,” of course, was that, at the time of their 1998 release, American Teenage Rock ’n’ Roll Machine, the Donnas were four teens fresh outta high school who played trashy, hooky rock without even a hint of Hello Kitty to sweeten the deal. Today, the Donnas are grown up and all-girl bands are no longer an anomaly—well, not as much, anyway. Hear the evolution on the band’s new comp, Greatest Hits, Vol. 16, with new songs, B-sides, live recordings and previously unreleased tracks. 908 K Street, www.thedonnas.com.
