This production hews much more closely to Mary Shelley’s Gothic novel than most, forsaking the big, green, bolty monster for a stitched-together man with a gentler heart and soul. Beautiful sets and costumes—and creepy, period-correct music—work well with a strong cast, but it still needs a shot of something—adrenaline? Lightning?—to make it truly classic.
