Forty feet of frosting

Don’t let the mask fool you. The Folsom zoo’s birthday celebration is not a costume party.

Forty feet of frosting works out to 12 inches of sugary goodness for every year the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary has provided shelter for injured or otherwise non-releasable wildlife. Not a bad tribute! Sample a few inches of the 40-foot cake that supports all that frosting at the zoo’s 40th birthday party. The day will include games and goodie bags, refreshments, a zoo history exhibit and a chance to commune with the animals. Mountain lions, black bears, horses, wolves, monkeys, parrots and foxes are just some of the creatures waiting to party with you on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is free. The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is located inside Folsom City Park at Natoma and Stafford streets in Folsom. Call (916) 351-3527 for more information.
