Next time you check out a concert at that absurdly named amphitheater near Yuba City, drop into Brock’s Ice Cream Palace. The teenage girls who wield the scoops are not sure how long Brock’s has been around (one opined that it has been open for at least 40 or 50 years, making that time sound as distant as the Triassic Period). Premium quality has kept the place in business. Brock’s prepares the ice cream right on the premises, and each luscious lick suggested that we were dealing with a product with a high fat content. The menu offers unusual flavors like chocolate malt chip, caramel cashew, cotton candy and root-beer marble. A single (which is actually two scoops) goes for $1.85, and a pre-packed half-gallon sells for $5.59. Brock’s is open until 11 p.m. daily, which may not be late enough for those struggling to get out of the amphitheater parking lot. 990 Gray Avenue in Yuba City, (530) 673-3835.
