Biodiesel, as an alternative to oil-based fuel, remains a bit controversial. Although using plant oils and animal fat as fuel decreases dependence on foreign oil, there are other factors to consider, including the cost of using the food supply for fuel. The debate is far from over. The California Automobile Museum will present a biodiesel workshop Saturday, December 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at 2200 Front Street. Participants will learn all the basics of biodiesel, including benefits, drawbacks and its impact on the environment, economy and government. There also will be a hands-on opportunity to create a small batch of biodiesel. Registration is $20 per person. To register, call (916) 442-6802 or visit www.calautomuseum.org.
