Eight Gigs: The Dodos

Tues., Feb. 10, 7 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $15

Musicians have it tough: Some fans want you to stay the same and others want you to change. San Francisco duo the Dodos have managed to do both to good effect with the January release Individ, which is less sweet and folksy than previous efforts (we'll see if drummer Logan Kroeber still tapes a tambourine to his shoe). The new stuff's more angular and almost math-rock-esque in the guitar work at times. Vocally, songs ring a touch more world-weary (in a good way). The band has remained refreshingly sincere over nearly a decade, and fans of bands like Beirut and Dr. Dog will especially take to this evolution. 2708 J Street, www.dodosmusic.net.
