Eight Gigs: Punchout

Fri., July 24. 9 p.m., Blue Lamp, $5

Get ready to go out swinging. California rock band Punchout is primed to tap into that oh-so-powerful '80s and '90s gamer nostalgia, with songs dedicated to televisions, and lyrics that call back to the NES' blinking red light, playing with power, Boy Meets World and even saving Princess Zelda (sometimes all rolled together into one song). Embrace your inner nerd … it may be dangerous to go alone, but I don't think you have to worry about Mike Tyson showing up. Maxxx, Archangel and Lite Brite round out this 21-and-over show. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.facebook.com/PunchOutMusic.
