Eight Gigs: Hellyeah

Sun., Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m., Ace of Spades, $22

Hellyeah is a supergroup. Drummer Vinnie Paul played with his late brother, Dimebag Darrell, in both Pantera and Damage Plan until Darrell was unexpectedly gunned down during a show. Singer Chad Gray fronted the wildly popular Mudvayne, guitarist Tom Maxwell played with Skrape and Nothingface, bassist Kyle Sanders was in Skrew and Bloodsimple, and second guitarist Christian Brady was in the lesser known Magna-Fi and Überschall. And while Hellyeah sounds nothing like its members' previous bands, that's a good thing. If you're into groove-laden metal with melodies sans blastbeats and odd time signatures, Hellyeah will deliver. Also on the bill are Devour The Day and Like A Storm. 1417 R Street, www.hellyeahband.com.
