Eight Gigs: California Honeydrops

Sat., May 30, 9 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $20

The argument about authenticity and appropriation will carry on until the end of time. In the meantime, it's safe to assume that the California Honeydrops—a five-piece Delta blues, New Orleans jazz, southern-soul band led by Warsaw-born frontman Lech Wierzynski—are going to keep on keepin' on as they have for the last seven years. The group's songs are fun and easy if not especially soulful—more Grand Funk Railroad than Muddy Waters—but you get the impression that the band has fun lighting up a room whether they're playing a small club or opening for the Doobie Brothers (which they'll be doing in San Francisco on June 14). 2708 J Street, www.cahoneydrops.com.
