Dog day

Not all days are as easy as a walk in the park. But come Saturday, thousands of animal enthusiasts will gather in William Land Park to do just that—all to raise money for the Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The SCPA’s 18th annual Doggy Dash and Bark at the Park Festival features a 2k or 5k walk (with dogs optional) followed by a pup show, disc contest and pug races. Other contests include an ugliest dog contest, a costume contest and a look-alike contest. The Bark in the Park Festival will also have canine demonstrations and information about pet-friendly businesses and local animal-rescue organizations.

The 2k and 5k begin at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 4, while the other dog-related events will be held throughout the day from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Registration costs $30 per person.
