Come on people now

Last month, 200,000 people gathered in the streets of San Francisco for a peace rally to protest a U.S. attack on Iraq. Since the Bush administration is still trying to get the war drums rolling, Northern California peace activists have decided to gather again. In addition to a peace demonstration scheduled for this Sunday in San Francisco, there will be a peace rally on Saturday at the Capitol in Sacramento. From noon until 1 p.m., citizens from Chico; Davis; Modesto; and Nevada, Placer, El Dorado and Sacramento counties will converge on the Capitol building from different points in downtown Sacramento. (Sacramento residents should meet at noon on Seventh and T streets. Bring your signs!) From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., myriad speakers, musicians and poets will make their case for peace. Look for Utah Phillips, Clan Dyken, Chico’s Women’s Peace Choir, Eduardo Cohen, Peace Clowns, Mario Ellis Hill and Staajabu, all emceed by Sac-Yolo Peace Action’s Jeanie Keltner. Informational displays, street theater and kids’ activities will run alongside the main stage. The event will close with a peace circle at 4 p.m. Call (916) 448-7157 or visit www.sacpeace.org for more information.
