Collection of real experiences—and art

We’ve been hearing a lot of good things about local independent dance company The CORE Dance Collective (CORE stands for “Collection of Real Experiences”). Its piece “Silent Noise,” inspired by the work of Gottfried Helnwein, was the first work of dance commissioned by the Crocker Art Museum. Awake My Soul, the CORE Collective’s program for this weekend, includes “Silent Noise,” as well as another piece called “After the Storm.” See the show, then stop by the Crocker to see the Helnwein exhibition. Or do it the other way round, if you’d prefer. Awake My Soul will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (April 21, 22 and 23) at the Benvenuti Performing Arts Center, 4600 Blackrock Drive in Sacramento. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door; for more information or to buy tickets, visit the CORE Dance Collective website at www.coredancecollective.org.
