Valentine’s Day is a week away, but you don’t want to do your shopping too late. For something distinctive—or just to have a fun time browsing for yourself—check out Land Park’s new shop, Dish. Opened in December by two collectors and former Sac State professors, Cecilia Gray and Lee Anderson, Dish specializes in kitchenware, glassware, dishes and other collectibles from the 1930s to the 1950s. In the beautifully arranged, color-coordinated shop, you’ll find red ’30s Hall teapots, vintage silver picture frames, champagne and wine glasses and cocktail shakers, and silver bonbon dishes—perfect for filling with the chocolates that Dish also sells. My personal fave are truffles from XOX Truffles Inc. in San Francisco; there are also chocolates from Capital Confections and The Candy House in Davis. If you’re not in the market for a gift, just browse the special not-for-sale collections, like the Toaster Museum. Any gifts you pick up will look as pretty as the store itself: “We do gift-wrap,” Gray says, “which I understand from the men is very important.” 2747 Riverside Boulevard, (916) 448-4828.
