Americans are a bit obsessed with celebrating the Irish. They go all out for St. Patrick’s Day extravaganzas, have a cereal devoted to the leprechaun and are fascinated with opening “authentic” Irish pubs in the states.

While the Irish get all the publicity, other Celtic cultures get the shaft—and the Scottish culture isn’t immune. But Scots have many awesome things to celebrate: kilts, bagpipes, Robert Burns, Sean Connery. Plus, they have the sexy accent factor, which is even better than a British accent.

The Summer Celtic Concert and Dance Exhibition will feature an afternoon of all things Scottish, including crafts, jewelry, singers, dancers and bagpipes. Scottish singer Isla St. Clair will serenade with traditional Scottish folk songs and performers from Kyla Groeschel’s School of Highland Dance will lace up their ghillies for the sword dance and highland fling. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Celtic celebration without bagpipe melodies by the City of Sacramento Pipe Band.

Proceeds from the event will benefit students of Scottish performing arts in the Sacramento region. Now, if only they could get Mr. Connery to make an appearance.
