The California State Fair returns for its 50th year with a sizzling backdrop: the sun. As the record heat wave fades in and out, temperatures are predicted to potentially hit the triple digits when the two-week-long fest opens Friday morning. But don’t let getting fried scare you from the fun. Wiener dog races, fine art, magic shows, cooking demos and live music by Lita Ford and Sheila E.; that’s just a sample of what’s in store for the first week. The fair runs through July 30.
