Britney Spears

Greatest Hits: My Prerogative

Save your breath, music snobs. I’m not debating the fact that Britney Spears performs overproduced, corporate music that dumbs down genuine funk to appeal to the lowest common denominator. But those of us who stay sane by throwing one-person dance parties in our living rooms are driven by a higher calling: The booty wants what it wants. The 17 tracks here include all of Spears’ booty-shaking hits: “Toxic,” “… Baby One More Time,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” etc. Alas, the selection is padded with decidedly un-danceable ballads like the maudlin “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” and a few questionable “hits” (“Sometimes”? “Lucky”?). You’ll have to skip a few tracks at your next solo dance-a-thon, but the bust-out-to-blah ratio is far better than Spears’ other efforts (and you know you bought those).
