“Come celebrate the marriage of America’s love for cars and its need for individual expression!” So reads the announcement for the second annual Sacramento ArtCar Bizarre. (That’s bizarre, not bazaar, folks.) Twenty-four artists from Northern California will drive their celebrity vehicles to Del Paso for public inspection at this week’s event. Admire the “VainVan”! Clash with “Discordia”! Cuddle up with the “Buick of Unconditional Love.” But be careful; spending time in the presence of these automotive masterpieces can produce strong urges to superglue action figures and lawn ornaments to the roof of your humble sedan.

Should you find these feelings overpowering, you can always distract yourself with live entertainment. The Bay Area’s Phenomenauts will play rockabilly with a Flash Gordon aesthetic. With Tully the One Man Circus, the Cyclecide Bike Rodeo, a demonstration of Sacramento’s largest Tesla coil and a group exhibit of local fringe art, this event promises to be unforgettable. Come for the cars but stay for the party on Saturday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Admission is free, and children are welcome. The wild rumpus starts at the Gallery Horse Cow, 1409 Del Paso Boulevard. Call (916) 922-9142 or visit www.artcar.org for more information.
