Another one bites the dosa

The deliciously venerable South Indian cuisine restaurant Udupi Café (2226 Sunrise Boulevard in Gold River) has passed away—sort of. Perhaps it’s more of a reincarnation: The all-vegetarian eatery recently changed ownership, and a few other things, too. According to its website (www.udupicafe.net), it’ll offer a dinner buffet once a week, chaat food-cart-style chow, fusion (i.e., Indo-German: German potato salad with Indian spices) and aims to emulate P.F. Chang’s chaininess. Wait, there’s more: With Udupi 2.0’s goal to be more mainstream, it will serve “nonvegetarian” items, because “most of the other restaurants that offer vegetarian dishes do have nonvegetarian [offerings], and people love them.” RIP.
