And … it’s a wrap

It’s a triumph, any way you look at it. This weekend, the Sacramento Ballet wraps up the season with a finale they weren’t sure they’d get, given early financial difficulties. It took a complete re-envisioning, but artistic directors made the call, the dancers stepped—or rather, danced—up, the community chipped in and the shows went on. In fact, we probably saw more ballet this year than ever before, and in some interesting places (think yogurt shops and art galleries, just for openers).

So this weekend, make sure you’ve got your tickets for the last shows of the season. Expect a bit of Balanchine (Allegro Brillante); It’s Not a Cry by Amy Seiwert; Ballet de Murphy by resident artist Nolan T’Sani; Molly Lynch’s A Journey and the rip-roaring happy feet of Jump Jive. And, since the company has so many dances in repertory this season, there may be a few more surprises.

Sacramento Ballet Season Finale Saturday, May 23, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 24, 2 p.m. at the Sacramento Theatre Company Main Stage, 1419 H Street. $38, with a limited number of $15 obstructed-view tickets available one hour prior to each show. Call the Sacramento Ballet Box Office, (916) 552-5800, ext. 2 (Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday 1 to 5 p.m.), or go to www.tickets.com.
