A funny finish

March 25, Mick Foley

One of the most memorable moments of the 1999 pro wrestling documentary Beyond the Mat is watching Mankind, a.k.a. Mick Foley, take a gruesome beating in the ring—with his family watching in the audience, crying. Right there some viewers maybe realized, “Hey, maybe this whole wrestling thing isn't as fake as I thought!” Foley has retired from wrestling, and now has a successful career as an author, and more recently, a comedic storyteller. Beyond the Mat also demonstrated what an intelligent, charming guy Foley is outside of the ring. He brings that charm and wit to the Punch Line Comedy Club to tell hilarious and true stories about his weird life. Some of the details can get horrific, but Foley's casual delivery and wit always make for a good time. 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at the Punchline Sacramento, 2100 Arden Way. Tickets are $25.
