A Call for Unity

Celebrate the richness and diversity of our community through an evening of interfaith music and spoken word.

Like the anniversary of Pearl Harbor and the death of John F. Kennedy, September 11th, 2001 will be remembered as a day that forever changed us. The victims of the World Trade Center attack were people from all walks of life: many races, religions, sexual orientations, classes and nationalities. The very diversity of America’s communities was seen in the victim lists. This diversity is one of the great strengths of our country.

In the days after the tragedy of September 11th, <places of worship were filled with people who drew comfort, strength and commitment from their own faith and traditions. In the months following, Americans found strength in our ability to come together as a nation, overcoming our differences and celebrating them. <p>On the first anniversary of this tragic event, let us come together to celebrate the diversity of our community. On the evening of September 11th, 2002, the News & Review, Interfaith Service Bureau and United Way present a night of remembrance featuring a range of Sacramento’s best interfaith music performances as well as speakers from a diverse political and cultural framework.

There will be several 3-minute spoken word presentations, including Dr. Metwalli B. Amer, Executive Director, Sacramento League of Associated Muslims and Bill Camp, Executive Secretary of the Sacramento Central Labor Council.

9-11 was a call for unity. Join us at Memorial Auditorium on September 11th, 2002, as we celebrate the diversity of our community. Join us for an evening to remember!
