Munich

Rated 5.0

Make that two excellent movies from Steven Spielberg in 2005. Eric Bana plays a Mossad agent given a mission to seek out and assassinate those who helped mastermind the killings of Jewish athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. While not historically accurate in many ways, the film is an intriguing study of the moral and emotional consequences of killing and will surely polarize audiences. This is unpleasant Spielberg, a dark film that provides none of the director’s trademark happy endings. It’s a hard movie to watch at times, containing some of the most violent murders ever put to screen. Bana, who played Ang Lee’s Hulk, gets a role much worthy of his talents. This is the best sort of movie, one that poses many questions and will inspire thought and dialogue on its subjects.
