Scared yet?

New kind of hate mail

A reader recently sent me an article that begins, “This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim. This is not hearsay, and it will scare you. Make sure you read the paragraph (in red) towards the end.” The paragraph in red read, “In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. to elect the President by themselves! Rest assured they will do so … You can look at how they have taken over several towns in the USA .. Dearborn Mich. is one … and there are others …”

So the writer wants me to be afraid of Muslims taking over the United States. Fair enough.

The article is apparently by Nonie Darwish, author of Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law. Here’s a sample of her descriptions of Sharia laws—“Even though a woman is abused, she can not obtain a divorce. To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses. Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry. The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can beat their wives ‘at will’ and the man does not have to say why he has beaten her.”

What seems to be a ready acceptance of actual and implied violence in Sharia law I found a little startling, but it’s probably no less humane than parts of the Old Testament, and we pay government agents to kill people with pride and a sense of honor perhaps like that of a family killing a daughter so the neighbors won’t think less of them.

Darwish makes Muslim women sound like slaves, but not so obviously enslaved as the people in prisons across the country, nearly 170,000 in California, not to mention the jackpot—wage slaves. Slavery is all around us wherever people are stuck, even in their heads.

I’m more concerned with the stories I hear about slavery and torture and murder around the world with the full connivance of the federal government than I am about an imaginary Muslim majority. You and I could be legally captured and tortured without charge right now and then tax money would pay for the cover-up. I think a Muslim president would be like the rest of them. That’s how you get to be president.

Few people are happy with the way they think things are headed here in the United States. Maybe the problem is with the machine, not just with the cogs we know about. We could just enjoy what we have and not worry so much. Either way, I ain’t scared of no Sharia.
