Shift at shelter

Montgomery departing Torres homeless center after eight years

Chico’s Torres Community Shelter will have new leadership July 12 when Brad Montogomery, executive director the past eight years, steps down.

Board chair Richard Ober announced the resignation in a press release, in which Montogomery (pictured) is quoted as saying his tenure “has been both the toughest and most rewarding work I’ve ever done. Now I’m ready to move on.”

Chico State faculty member Kristina Carter will serve as interim director of the 140-bed homeless shelter during the search for Montgomery’s replacement. Carter, in the university’s Health and Community Services department, has 25 years of experience with public health facilities management.
