Redd Volkaert

Former Nashville session player turned lead guitarist for country legend Merle Haggard, Redd Volkaert is a Fender Telecaster master. If you love the sound of a Tele played well, you’ll love Volkaert’s newly released third CD, For the Ladies. The man is accompanied by such country hotshots as pedal steel players Joe Goldmark and Norm Hamlet and pianist Floyd Domino (Asleep at the Wheel). From his swinging original “She Loves Anything That Swings” (live with The TwangBangers: Volkaert, Goldmark, fellow Tele monster Bill Kirchen and singer/guitarist Dallas Wayne) to the completely rippin’ “Breakneck” to his Ventures-like “Chee-Z” and everything else before, after and in-between, Volkaert proves what a great guitarist (and singer) he is, worthy of name recognition all on his own. Volkaert doesn’t showboat, but he does play some bad-ass little solos throughout. His solo on the Byrds’ “You’re Still on My Mind” is crazy, tasty and sexy. Check it out.
