Majority of Americans favor legalizing marijuana

Last week, voters in Oregon, Alaska and Washington, D.C., cast ballots in favor of recreational marijuana use, joining Washington state and Colorado. The most recent Gallup poll, based on information gathered Oct. 12-15, show that a slight majority of Americans—51 percent—favor legalization. In 2011 and 2012, 50 percent voted pro pot, with numbers peaking last year when 58 percent of those polled favored legalization for recreational use.
