Olympics not green enough?

An environmental watchdog group has criticized the organizers of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, saying not enough sustainable measures are being planned at the upcoming sporting events in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia.

According to The Canadian Press, Peter Berg, a Guard Fox Watch member and director of the San Francisco-based Planet Drum Foundation, said the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) has so far complied only with environmental restrictions that date back to the 1960s.

Among the eco-friendly efforts it has proposed to the committee, Guard Fox Watch would like to see a ban on the use of fossil-fuel vehicles and a recycled water program. In response, a VANOC sustainability director claims the group is already taking environmental steps that will exceed those of all previous games but did not rule out additional measures.
