No medi-pot in Paradise?

Town of Paradise may ban cultivation, delivery of medical marijuana

The town of Paradise will soon consider banning the cultivation and delivery of medical marijuana within town limits. The Planning Commission voted 3-2 in favor of a proposed ordinance that would do just that during a special public meeting on Monday (Dec. 21).

Community Development Director Craig Baker said by phone that the impetus for the ordinance comes from recently passed state legislation that establishes licensing regulations for medical marijuana dispensaries and delivery services. “We have a lot of enforcement problems [already],” Baker said, adding that town staff and legal counsel agreed that prohibiting cultivation and delivery altogether would be easier than enforcing medi-pot laws. “The majority of the Planning Commission agrees.”

From here, the draft ordinance is set for discussion during the Paradise Town Council’s regular meeting on Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Town Council Chambers (5550 Skyway).
