OLD FRIENDS<br>Stan Yoshida traveled quite a distance on his motorcycle to pay a visit to his friend Veda McKinley—around the world. Yoshida, 62, said he used to work for a Japanese company that sent him to Los Angeles in 1977. There he met McKinley, 75, who now resides at the Sycamore Glen retirement community. “We became very close friends,” he said. “Then she moved to Chico and I went back to Japan. I had a chance to meet up with her again 10 years ago.” Earlier this year Yoshida retired from his job and began his journey to Chico. He rode his bike across Siberia and through Eastern Europe to Helsinki, where he put it on a ship bound for the United States. He flew over the Atlantic, landed in New York and then crossed the country, arriving in Chico on Oct. 17. “I rode through the Amish country of Ohio,” he said. On the day he called the News & Review, he was getting ready to head south to Los Angeles, from where he would leave for Japan on Oct. 20. “I just wanted to say good-bye to an old friend,” he said.
