For those who don’t read the Enterprise-Record regularly, or who just haven’t noticed, the printed page has been reduced in width by about half an inch. (The depth remains the same—except when it comes to The Buzz.). The reason: cutting costs. According to the newspaper, the narrower pages will reduce its newsprint purchases by up to 8 percent.

Another cost-cutting change for the MediaNews outlet involves its sister paper in Oroville, the Mercury-Register, which fired its editor of 18 years, Carmen Biano. The move was made—in the words of Publisher Wolf Rosenberg—to “eliminate redundancies.”

E-R Editor David Little has taken over Biano’s duties, and former CN&R intern and contributor Toni Scott (pictured) has been hired as a reporter to cover Oroville.
