In 1949, with growth booming, the city of Chico installed its first traffic lights.

Whether visiting Chico on business or pleasure or to check out Chico State’s beautiful campus, the abundance of fun and exciting things to do in this little town can pose an obvious problem—how to stay over comfortably. Don’t worry: You don’t have to bunk in a cramped dorm room. There are plenty of quality hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfast inns available.

As you might find in a larger town, the various establishments are geographically grouped together. This way a person visiting Chico can choose a place of rest depending on the recreation or business that brought him or her here.

A reservation is not usually required to stay at one of our hotels, motels or inns but is encouraged. There are some exceptions, of course. During certain holidays, events and celebrations, Chico can become packed with people. Obviously, graduation weekend is one of those times when reservations are swept up six months in advance. Other popular weekends are Labor Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day—which has been celebrated for many years by floating down the Sacramento River—and Halloween, during which more than 15,000 people crowded downtown Chico this past October.

If you plan in advance and come prepared, you’ll love your stay here.
