Library waiving late fees

September amnesty designed to bring back materials, patrons

If you’ve avoided the library due to overdue books, you needn’t be a fugitive any longer. The Butte County Library will waive all late fees during September in celebration of National Library Card Sign-Up Month.

The county library has frozen the accounts of more than 3,300 cardholders who owe more than $10 in fines. More than a quarter are youth under 18. Those affected can visit their local branch to return items or bring in replacements for damaged or lost items.

While waiving up to $1,300, the county expects to get back up to 200 items and bring community members back to the library.
