Kickin’ It Old Skool

Rated 2.0

Oddly enough, this half-assed attempt at comedy serves as a metaphor for Jamie Kennedy’s career itself. Malibu’s Most Wanted was pretty sad, and this continued riff on the fish-out-of-water theme is even sadder still. Which begs implausibility, but there you go. The whole break dancing phenom back in the day was sad and pathetic to begin with, so I suppose there was some comedic potential in having the set-up to a premise being a young break dancer trying out an amazing stunt, only to put himself into a 20-year coma … to wake up and follow the Jamie Kennedy template. His Funky Fresh Crew is old crew now and out of shape, so you know how this all falls into place. It’s all earnest and its heart is in the right place, but it is still The Little Engine That Couldn’t. Just like Jamie Kennedy. But at least there’s not an overwhelming indie rock soundtrack to have to endure.
