Hop on your bike!

Winter is behind us, the weather is amazing and you’re probably ready for some exercise. What better time for traveling around town on a bicycle?

To get you started, the Butte Bicycle Coalition is kicking off BikeChico! Week, Sunday (May 11) through Saturday (May 17). This is a week chock full of events, including contests and awards, based around this eco-friendly mode of transportation.

The group will treat you to refreshments at energizer stations set up from 7-9 a.m., Monday-Friday, at City Plaza, Chico Airport and In Motion Fitness. So pull your bike from the rafters of your garage and get peddling!

Here are just a few of the other things in store:

Sunday: Check out vintage bikes, demonstrations and bike-safety info during PedalFest at the downtown City Plaza, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Prizes given away every half-hour!

Monday: Head to Chico State’s Bell Memorial Union from 5-8 p.m. for the Associated Students Bike Swap.

Tuesday: Pedal down to the Pageant Theatre at 6:30 p.m. for three bike-related movies.

Wednesday: Roll on over to City Hall (conference room 2) for a glimpse into a biking adventure in Siberia.

Thursday: Look in awe as BMX bikers do their thing (Silver Dollar Fairgrounds, 7 p.m.).

Friday: Listen to some tunes and see who is crowned a Bike Commuter Hero during the Friday Concert in the Park (City Plaza, 7 p.m.).

Saturday: Round off the week with a picnic at Bidwell Park’s Five-Mile Recreation Area, 4-7 p.m.
