High school drama continues

Banned production has new venue, but no on-campus rehearsals

Tim Milhorn, the Orland High School drama teacher whose play The Tender Yellow Sky was canceled because it deals with the issue of teen suicide, has gotten a good word from Libby Jensen, production manager and technical director at Chico’s Blue Room Theatre.

Jensen told Milhorn that the theater “is interested in being the venue for his show,” pending his submission of official paperwork and script for the final OK by the Blue Room’s Artistic Committee.

However, Milhorn says that the Orland school district has forbidden his theater class to rehearse the play during school time or on school grounds. Attempts by phone and e-mail to reach Principal Jeff Scheele for comment went unanswered. As reported by the CN&R last week (“Banned in Orland,” Newslines), Scheele called off the production fearing it might spark copycat suicides.
