Gateway goes gold

Science museum gets LEED Gold

The U.S. Green Building Council recently awarded the Gateway Science Museum with LEED Gold certification, one of the highest achievements in the green-building industry, according to a museum press release.

The museum celebrated its achievement last Saturday (June 11), when Director Rachel Teasdale led a walking tour to point out features in the building that were designed and built with sustainability in mind, including water conservation measures, and the use of natural light and sustainably harvested wood products. Teasdale also showcased features outside the museum, such as its outdoor eco-regions.

The museum’s summer exhibits are “Sustainable Choices” and “Climate Science,” and will be on display until Aug. 14. Summer hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
