Finally free

If Amber Simmons (pictured) wants to play for her old coach, Chico State isn’t going to stop her—but the university hasn’t made transferring easy for its first women’s basketball All-American.

President Paul Zingg announced that the Athletic Department would grant Simmons a release to the University of the Pacific, allowing her to play her senior season under former Wildcats coach Lynne Roberts. As reported in the CN&R, Simmons has tried to talk to other schools since late March, and her request for a release went all the way to the CSU counsel in Long Beach before getting granted.

Chico State did tell UOP that Roberts made contact with her former forward during this past year, a possible rules violation that Roberts has reported to the NCAA.
