Fabulous photos, students

High school students excel in plant-photography contest

Local high school students churned out some extremely impressive photos for a recent plant-photography contest sponsored by Friends of the Chico State Herbarium and the Gateway Science Museum.

The contest was designed to get students interested in the efforts of the organizations and the local science community. Organizer Rodney Lacey said the quality of the pictures made choosing the winners and the honorable mentions difficult for the panel of six judges.

In the close-up category, Michael Tremain’s photo of wet rose leaves (pictured) took first place; Debra Christian took second. In the landscape category, Christian took the top spot with her photo of a giant valley oak, while Zora Thomas came in second.

Meanwhile, students Caitlin Greenwood, Jessica Swope, Olivia Williams and Summer Laymon scored honorable mentions for their submissions.
