Eat healthfully, help the needy

Pyramid Farms donates sales from Saturday’s farmers market to aid needy families

Pick up some delicious organic vegetables at the Saturday farmers market in downtown Chico and help needy international families at the same time.

Matthew Martin of Pyramid Farms is donating his proceeds from Saturday’s (Nov. 22) sales to Heifer International—a nonprofit organization working to end world hunger by providing impoverished families with a sustainable source of food (livestock) rather than short-term relief. “It’s amazing what a small amount of giving will do to help other people,” he said.

Martin’s goal is to gift 10 flocks of chickens, 10 flocks of ducks/geese, four honeybee hives, two goats, one pig and one sheep. One of the best parts of supporting Heifer International is that the recipients of livestock are required to give the offspring—and knowledge—to another person in their community.

Pyramid Farms is a local farm specializing in certified organic produce. Look for the farm’s sign and pick up some orange cauliflower, romanesco, broccoli, butternut squash, and don’t forget to grab some of the famous sweet carrots.
