Dem to take on Herger

A fourth-generation Trinity County resident and county supervisor, Jeff Morris (pictured), has announced his candidacy to replace District 2 Rep. Wally Herger (R-Chico) in Congress. Herger is in his 11th term.

A press release noted that Morris, the only Democrat in the race so far, “has been a driving force behind the financial turnaround of Trinity County,” which was near bankruptcy when he took office in January 2005. Its only hospital was also failing. Both institutions are back to health, Morris said.

“Northern California has been waiting a long time for a strong new voice, and I believe I can best represent the interests of our citizens and communities,” he added.

Morris and his wife, Judy, live in the hills above Weaverville. He will speak to the Democratic Action Club of Chico tonight (Feb. 21) at 7 p.m. in the City Council building.
