Delay on Stony Creek

Proposed waste treatment facility in Glenn County faces appeal

The controversial Glenn County Solid Waste Conversion Facility, proposed for construction along Stony Creek about 3 miles west of Hamilton City, is facing a new roadblock.

On Feb. 24, the week after the Glenn County Planning Commission voted 4-1 to approve the project’s environmental impact report and conditional use permit, the grassroots group Concerned Citizens of Glenn County (CCGC) filed an appeal with the Glenn County Board of Supervisors. That panel will hear the appeal during its regular meeting on March 29.

CCGC isn’t the only organization in opposition of the project. Environmental watchdog nonprofit Butte Environmental Council and members of the Hispanic community in Hamilton City are also in the fight to stop it from moving forward.
