Man shoots himself in hand at Chico frat house

A man accidentally shot himself in the hand at a local fraternity house Sunday (Feb. 21), according to the Chico Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to Enloe Medical Center at about 9 p.m. Sunday after a report of a negligent discharge of a firearm. The victim, who was not identified in the CPD’s media log or by CPD staff, told officers he was cleaning his .40-caliber handgun at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house on Ivy Street when the weapon went off, wounding him in his hand.

Alpha Gamma Rho is an agriculture-centered fraternity with 75 chapters nationwide. The local chapter is not currently recognized by Chico State, according to Joe Wills, director of public affairs at the university.
