Davis facility earns LEED Platinum

Winery gets green stamp

UC Davis’ new winery, brewery and foods facility recently became the first facility of its kind in the world to receive LEED Platinum certification, the highest rating on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale, according to a university press release.

In late December, the 34,000-square-foot teaching and research complex received the certification for its extensive systems that save energy and make use of rainwater.

Plans are also in the works for a system that sequesters carbon dioxide produced through on-site fermentations.

The $20 million project was funded entirely by private donations. A grand opening is scheduled for Jan. 28.

Chico State’s Student Services Center and Wildcat Recreation Center are LEED Gold certified, and the Gateway Science Museum is expecting a Silver certification.
