Butte County election tallies

Incumbents rule

With all the votes now cast and a grand majority counted—the exception being the roughly 8,500 mail-in ballots and approximately 500 provisional ballots that carry some question as to their validity—here are the county election results as of press time: Butte County 2nd District Supervisor Larry Wahl (67 percent) retains his seat over challenger Andrew Merkel (32 percent); 3rd District Supervisor Maureen Kirk (58 percent) stays over Bob Evans (42 percent); Butte County Superior Court Judge Sandra McLean (63 percent) defends her seat against defense attorney Eric Ortner (37 percent); County Clerk-Recorder Candace Grubbs (72 percent) drubs Pamela Teeter (28 percent); appointed Treasurer-Tax Collector Peggy Moak (70 percent) collects more votes than challenger Kathleen Dwyer (29 percent).

In the race for assessor, current County Supervisor Bill Connelly (33 percent) will go up against Assessor’s Office employee Diane Brown (31 percent) in the November general election, because none of the five candidates running for that office garnered more than 50 percent of the vote.

The county incumbents running unopposed did very well, with District Attorney Mike Ramsey (94 percent), and Auditor-Controller David Houser (99 percent) retaining their seats. Appointed Sheriff-Coroner Kory Honea keeps that post (99 percent).
