Five more Chico crews to cheer for

Previous Next
Sofa King

“Sofa King is here/It’s a funk attack!” That’s the promise made on the local funk-and-soul crew’s call to action, “Make Your Body Move,” and it’s one that’s fulfilled by frontwoman Christina Comfort and her tight crew of groove-makers every time they pack local dance floors.

Solar Estates

From the ashes of French Reform comes Solar Estates, a pared down, more synth-forward take on electronic pop music. Together less than a year, the four-piece—Aric Jeffries, Ashley Penning, Phil Anker and Nik Burman—has already released two EP’s and has another on the way.

The Maker’s Mile

With its eclectic blend of styles—funk, hip-hop, rock, reggae—The Maker’s Mile takes a page from the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime and other like-minded high-energy crews to make the kind of party rock that a college town should go crazy for, and they just dropped a new self-titled album in September.

Ave Grave

Sean Galloway of local indie supergroup The Shimmies is taking a mellow detour with his subdued solo alter-ego Ave Grave. He’s recorded a ton of moody atmospheric tunes over the past few years, culminating with an excellent self-titled album released last summer, followed by a busy schedule touring the western states that continues through February.

Gigantes

This local five-piece is a clean, fine-tuned machine that lives up to its moniker. With tight, fresh haircuts and a tightly constructed brand of melodic metalcore, Gigantes comes ready to work at melting faces with its huge sound.
