All green TV, all the time

Fans of the Discovery Channel can look forward to more environmental programs with the launch of a new eco-devoted division. The cable network plans to offer a 24-hour environmental channel beginning next year.

Discovery officials say Planet Green will cover myriad subjects, ranging from food and fashion to architecture and technology. Actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio is producing one of the channel’s series, Eco-Town, which will follow the work to transform a tornado-ravished town into a sustainable community.

The channel is scheduled to debut in more than 50 million homes, bringing viewers useful information through special series, such as Ten Ways to Save the Planet. The goal is to broadcast simple, eco-friendly tips, as well as reports on climate change, glacial melting, deforestation and other environmental topics.
