Hitting the big-time
Chico State alum Travis Kurtz can be found on IMDb, with two comedy projects in the making. The first, Ready or Not, is in post-production and stars Christian Oliver (The Good German). The second, just announced, is Yellow Fever, starring Last Comic Standing winner Dat Phan. Kurtz is listed as writer on both.

Speaking of comics
Another alum of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Pharaoh, will be on the Chico State campus tonight (Sept. 6). Courtesy of the Pi Delta chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, Pharaoh and friends—Sadiki Fuller, Butch and Michael Lemcke—will perform at the BMU. There’ll even be film crews on hand documenting Pharaoh’s Not Right in the Head tour. Check it out at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7:30). Tickets are $7 with a Chico State ID; $10 general public.

Vroom vroom
Some Butte College students have a need for speed—and they’re taking it out on the race track. Two years ago, Honda PACT donated an S2000. Students on the Motorsports Racing Team spiffed it up and have been racing it—with much success—this past year. Actually, they did so well last year, with five first-place wins and five seconds, that the team will make its way to the Sports Car Club of America National Runoffs in Kansas next month. The team (pictured) is seeking donations to send as many students as possible to Topeka. For information, call 879-6103.

Get involved
If you want to give your résumé a boost and get in the good graces of a city councilmember at the same time, CHAMP could be a double winner for you. The Chico High Academic Mentoring Program has a grant for a VISTA volunteer to help coordinate the student-mentor matches. Call Mary Flynn—aka Councilwoman Flynn—at 895-4137 to learn more.

Water babies
For those looking for a fun activity, the Chico State Water Ski Team is seeking new members who know a thing or two about slalom, trick and jump skiing. Tryouts are Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 8-9) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To get there, take Highway 99 south to Highway 162. Take a left. Then a right at the afterbay—there will be a team banner to let you know you’re at the right place. Good luck!
