Issue: November 12, 2020

With so many mail-in ballots to be counted, we all have to be patient for Election 2020 results. That’s true in the presidential race, but also in local contests, including the Sacramento City Council District 8 runoff between Mai Vang and Les Simmons and the Sacramento County supervisor District 3 runoff between Rich Desmond and Gregg Fishman.

The result is clear in Sacramento’s “strong mayor” measure—and Mayor Darrell Steinberg’s big gamble didn’t pay off. It also appears that Sacramento voters rejected the rent control measure as well. To keep up with the latest on local elections, go to our website.

Meanwhile, the pandemic isn’t going away. Sacramento County is in coronavirus limbo, unable to reduce case numbers enough to reopen more businesses. Struggling California restaurants are appealing to customers for help, but also backing a potential class-action lawsuit to recover government fees.
